El Rey 10/7 - Teenage Jesus & the Jerks w/Mika Miko, The Urinals, The Lamps. This show will make you scream n' shake! both because it rocks and because that annoying, gangly hipster girl keeps hitting you with her purse, right in the boob. Ouch!
Fold Silverlake 10/13 @ Silverlake Lounge - Thee Vicars & Dirt Dress. The Horrors, King Khan & the Shrines and Black Lips APPROVED. Tuesday night garage rock, c'mon what else are you doing?
10/22 & 23 @ Silverlake Lounge - Those Darlins. They sure are fine! Be my garage punk country sweethearts! Seriously, I'm falling in love.
The Echo/Echoplex/Spaceland 10/12@ Echoplex - Fishtank Ensemble. A MUST SEE! LA Weekly describes them as "cross pollinated gypsy music". The lead singer plays a SAW. You will be dancing in a drunken stupor in no time. OPA!
10/21 @ Echo - The Heavy. The Heavy lays it down heavy with a sweet retro mix of indie/soul/reggae/rock grooves. Grab a Red Stripe at the bar and bob and sway to the beat and then freak out! song after song.
10/28 @ Spaceland - Soulico w/Axum, Ceci Bastida. Multi culti Jew dance party full of soul and big beats.
Troubador 10/8 - The Rescues. These guys and gals sing like angels and are the ones making you weep at the end of that episode of Grey's Anatomy.
10/22- Meshell Ndegeocello w/J*Davey. Bass n' Soul for the Afro Punks.
10/30 & 31 - Bouncing Souls w/Bayside. Push those emo tweens out of the way and rock out in the pit to the Bouncing Souls, perhaps dressed up as a dinosaur or a zombie (these are Halloween shows after all!). You're sure to hear a good mix of songs from Maniacal Laughter all the way up to The Gold Record. I've sang "Here We Go" with Greg at Boston Warped '01 and I've been trampled over during their first song at House of Blues on Sunset. Their shows are ALWAYS memorable.
Sunset Strip 10/9 @ Roxy - Metronomy. I hear good things.
10/11 @ Key Club - People Under the Stairs. It's like an aural hip hop map of Los Angeles.
10/17 @ Roxy - Chali2Na of Jurassic 5. If you don't go to this you're trippin.
The Knitting Factory 10/23 - Bluebeat Lounge FINAL show. Bluebeat has been bringing the best in ska/reggae/punk/rocksteady since it started over 6 years ago. Bluebeat was my initiation into the west coast scene, a community where I met lots of friends, and one of the best places to see great bands and dance dance dance! It'll be sad to see Bluebeat and the Knitting Factory go but this show will be the perfect way to say goodbye. Great lineup: See Spot, Chris Murray, The Debonaires, Raskahuele, Go Go 13, Buck O Nine, etc.
The Smell 10/24 - Abe Vigoda. LA NOISE to the MAX. Don't just stand there like a pussy, dance like mad.
Jewminican from w.mass who is a current LA transplant
Note: My fellow w.mass'er Miranda is the other half of ICE CREAM BETCHES and she'll also be blogging on here, but the movies/music/interests etc are about me and subject to change.
